Forest Row

The day was back to rainy and grey. Not a good day to do our walk on the South Downs to get that iconic photo of the white cliffs.

We set off using a very poor map and ended up walking for about 1 and a half hours. We didn't think it would rain much so didn't bother about rain pants. We got very wet. By the time we got to the beach it was very misty and it was difficult to get a good shot.

A school excursion jumping over the tank bollards. There were quite a few WWII.pillboxes still on the beach.

We changed when we got back to the car and had some hot chocolate. We then thought we would wander off towards Forest Row and see what there was on the way. We came across the Long man of Wilmington but at first all you could see was his feet. Gradually over some time you could see more of his outline.

Then we went to the Bentley Motor museum. We had lunch there. Very nice piece of rarebit. I stayed in the cafe and had coffee while Geoff looked around the museum. Still raining...

Geoff challenged himself to find Forest Row where he lived from 4-9 years. He found it fine! We booked into the Brambletye Inn. I had booked the deluxe suite as I thought it would be fun for Geoff to stay in Forest Row. It was very nice and the room was very big.

We went for a bit of a walk around town to see what was still there from the fifties.

The village draws its name from its proximity to the Ashdown Forest, a royal hunting park first enclosed in the 13th century.

We had tea at the hotel and downloaded a movie to watch.
